As I was working on the sketches for this, my daughter informed me that I was drawing a pixie, who must be the guardian of the spotted egg. I enjoyed painting the poppies, and when I got to the lupines I remembered I used to paint flowers on pottery (in another lifetime). The totally optional theme for Creative Every Day in March was "Color" and I think it was a good one for me.

Whisper for Illustration Friday

It's a poppy year!
A lot of rain means a lot of poppies. My creativity exercises have drifted away from paper and into the outdoors. More hikes into the hills. More dancing and silliness with my children. Exploring science expos and demonstrations - building with toothpicks and marshmallows, even holding a hissing cockroach! My artwork has suffered, but my life has been enriched. We love the sunshine, but celebrate the rain, enjoying the flowers it brings and even the designs it carves in the ground as it leaves.

Illustration Friday:Wool
For Illustration Friday's theme, "Wool" I had in mind a painting I did a long time ago of sheep in a field, but scaled it way down and included a little shepherd. Very simple drawing in pencil, ink, and then colored with watercolor pencils. Unfortunately I'm still having trouble transferring the image to digital, but it's pretty close to the original.

CED check in
More science experiments, gardening, brainstorming, recipe creating, drawing, hot air balloon chasing, a visit to the aquarium, a little geocaching, and painting. It was a good week.

Wings for Illustration Friday
I am a person who is continually fascinated by birds, but I chose to paint a person for this week's theme: "Wings".
And as far as being creative every day the last week, I can say I practiced Russian, created a new recipe, made a terrarium garden with my daughter, went "boating" in the pool with the kids, built a model earth out of clay, sketched and painted for this illustration. This is good to look back on when I think life has become dreary. Which moments are bigger and better? The ones where I pull out the same pot for pasta, or the nights where Popcorn Rock crystals and little paper birds fill the kitchen table at dinnertime?

Rock candy and a solar oven
It's fun to have a place to gather the projects the kids and I have been working on. We've tried making rock candy before and it didn't work so well. This time, we made two colors, one on a stick and the other on string. Success!
For the solar oven, we happened to find a warm, sunny day at the end of an unusual freezing spell and were able to melt chocolate on graham crackers. Next time cookies! We're just dreaming of what we can do in the summer...
